Part 2 of an extensive feature about luthiers best kept secrets. Claudio Pagelli (Switzerland), TJ Thompson (who restored Eric Claptons vintage Martin), Bernd Martin (Granada, Spain), John Monteleone (Islip, NY) and José Romanillos (Seguenza, Spain) talk about how to build a master instrument.
Interestingly the quality of a master grade instruments starts with the time of year and the phase of the moon when the trees are cut. The experts show their methods to carve the soundboard and how they shape the neck of a guitar.
