Michael A. Lewis builds Custom Archtop Guitars and Custom Mandolins under his name “Lewis”. He is also the only authorized Custom Guitar Maker who builds D’Angelico guitar replicas made in USA. Custom Guitar Video wanted to know what it takes to do master work!
When I traveled to Grass Valley, CA I had no idea what to expect. My friend Richard Glick of Fine Guitar Consultants in San Diego highly recommended to meet Michael and spend a couple of days with him. I happened to meet one of the nicest and most humble master luthiers I have ever met. Michael builds, besides his own branded “Lewis” stringed instruments, the official D’Angelico replicas “Made in USA”. His “Lewis” Archtop Guitars, Mandolins and Mandocellos are among the finest instruments you can find on the market of hand-made high-end Custom Guitars today.
The second sequel of the Michael A. Lewis story tries to find out what it takes to be or become a master in what you are doing. Alan Carruth compared guitar making with a religion, Stephan Schertler compares it with wine making and Michael A. Lewis compares it with racing motorcycles. He sums it up it his own simple words: “You can only do master work, when you do master work!”
